Photo Gallery

Informations

The Diocesan Ecclesiastical Museum of Troia is located inside the Benedictine Monastery. This monastery is a grandiose architectural complex built by Bishop Felice Siliceo (1623-1626) then Vicar of Monsignor Aldobrandino (1592-1607). The complex was inaugurated in 1605.

The Ecclesiastical Museum of Troia is composed of a large cloister which is accessed at n. 6 exhibition rooms: Hall of the Mysteries, Hall of the Annunciation, Hall of the Flabelli, Hall of the Capitals, Hall of Our Lady and the Crypt.

In the Museum, several exhibitions are set up every year.

The museum exhibition includes bronze sculptures, paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries, and marbles from the city's cathedral. The museum's structure is organized in rooms parallel to the cloister arches, containing artifacts from various historical periods. Among the most valuable pieces, there is a painted statue of the Madonna from 1448, sculpted by Giovanni da Casalbore, and a wooden altarpiece from the 16th century depicting the Madonna delle Grazie, St. Leonard the Abbot, and St. Anthony the Abbot. However, the most precious piece is a capital dating back to the Swabian period, which has a twin preserved at the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
