The Lake of Varano is located in the province of Foggia, and is divided between the municipalities of Carpino, Ischitella and Cagnano Varano.

Thanks to its surface of about 60 km², it is the largest coastal lake in Italy.


Lake Varano is a wonderful natural gem and represents the largest coastal lake in all of Italy. With an area of over 60 square kilometers, it is the largest lake in Southern Italy and the seventh largest in the entire country. Located along the northern coast of Gargano, this lake is an interesting exception since, despite its name, it is actually a lagoon. The area of Lake Varano attracts numerous nature enthusiasts as it offers a wide range of naturalistic itineraries and excursions, both on foot and by boat.
