In San Giovanni Rotondo, organist Matteo Imbruno
Informations
The concert ‘A Baroque Journey Through Europe’ will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 7:30 pm at the church of Sant'Onofrio anchorita in San Giovanni Rotondo.
At the console of the Zanin opus 915 organ will sit Maestro Matteo Imbruno, an exceptional organist and owner of the large Vater-Müller organ at the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam, inaugurated in 1726 and considered, for its historical, technical and artistic value, one of the most important organs in the world.
The value of a pipe organ lies not, in fact, only in the power of the sound, but also in the ability to create inner silence, memory and community. The organ, in fact, with its ability to transform sound space and become a vibrant body within architecture, becomes a metaphor for the fusion between matter and spirit, between presence and transcendence.
From this perspective, the very nature of the pipe organ is of fundamental importance: its construction, the expansions or restorations that are often carried out over the centuries, are never the result of standardized industrial processes, but of specific projects, calibrated to the acoustics of the environments and the territorial contexts.
Each instrument is therefore born or evolves as a single work, the result of a careful study of the sound, architecture and history of the place in which it is to be placed.
The organ, therefore, becomes not only a musical instrument, but an element of identity and culture in the area that hosts it.
This event is part of the third cycle of concerts ‘eVenti d'Organo’ desired by the parish priest Don Leo Abbascià and artistically coordinated by the organist Giovanni Lecce.
Matteo Imbruno, titular organist of the Oude Kerk at the H'ART Museum in Amsterdam, studied in Bologna, Rotterdam and Lübeck.
An interactively renowned concert pianist, he has performed at the most prestigious organ festivals around the world such as Rome, London, Barcelona, Berlin, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Basel, Warsaw, Yekaterinburg, Yerevan, Vienna, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, etc.… He has also played on two organs several times with Gustav Leonhardt.
He is often invited to serve on the juries of international organ competitions and is frequently entrusted with specialization courses by numerous musical institutions.
He has been a visiting professor at the conservatories of Buenos Aires, Rosario, Mendoza (Argentina), Montevideo (Uruguay), Providence, Oberlin, New York and Phoenix (USA), Rio de Janeiro, Monopoli, Florence, Pesaro, Fermo, Potenza, Foggia, L'Aquila, Benevento, Caltanissetta etc...
He has recorded 8 CDs and a Ddv for various record companies, which have been very well received by critics. He also made recordings for BBC Radio London.
