The Casa del Capitano is located in the historic center of Faeto with access from Vico Valentino and presumably dates back to the 15th century. An ancient legend has it that the leader of the local brigands lived there; tradition, on the other hand, tells us that the governor of the country resided there.
It presents historical-artistic elements of high interest, given that in 1969 it was declared "of particularly important interest" by the Ministry of Education. Of greater importance is the characteristic mullioned window overlooking via Vittorio Emanuele. Most likely it was built from the remains of the Monastery of the Holy Savior located near the town.
Currently inside the Casa del Capitano there is the Ethnographic Museum of the Franco-Provençal Communities of Faeto and Celle San Vito, the only linguistic colonies of this kind in central-southern Italy. The museum testifies, through a collection of tools of exceptional interest, the uses, customs and popular traditions of the country's peasant, pastoral and artisan civilization.
The Ethnographic Museum of the Francoprovencal Communities consists of four rooms divided into sectors; in each sector a form has been reported which, in addition to indicating the denomination of the objects in Italian and in the Franco-Provençal language, also describes the working process and the use to which they were used.
