Exhibition of Ancient Maps at the San Matteo Monastery


The Provincial Franciscan Library of the San Matteo Monastery in San Marco in Lamis is hosting an extraordinary exhibition of ancient maps from January 20 to April 10, 2025.


This remarkable collection showcases maps spanning from the Middle Ages to the modern era, focusing on Magna Graecia, the Kingdom of Naples, Apulia, Capitanata, and Gargano. Renowned cartographers featured include Gastaldi, Münster, Mercator, Ortelius, Janssonius, Bleau, Magini, and many more.


The exhibit also includes a canvas replica of the Tabula Peutingeriana, offering visitors a fascinating journey through five centuries of cartographic history. Informative notes accompany each map, and additional bibliographic materials are available for in-depth exploration.


Opening Hours:


Monday-Saturday: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Sunday: 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Admission: Free (group and school visits require prior booking via email: bibliofrancescana@gmail.com).
