Plot


"Oliva Denaro" is inspired by the true story of Franca Viola, the first woman in Italy to reject the "reparative marriage" after experiencing violence. The play follows Oliva, a fifteen-year-old girl, as she recounts her journey of growth and emancipation. The narrative unfolds in a retrospective manner, starting from her childhood and leading to her bold decision to say no to violence and societal conventions.


The storytelling explores the contradictions of love and familial bonds, depicting a father who, despite his silence and doubts, supports his daughter, and a mother who evolves from a position of submission to one of liberation. Viola Ardone's writing transforms "Oliva Denaro" into a tale of freedom, civilization, and redemption, addressing not only past events but also the challenges and struggles faced by women today.
