The Bosco Difesa of Faeto is located on the northern side of the municipality and covers about 150 hectares. It has been named Site of Community Importance (SIC) since it represents one of the most important naturalistic woods of the Dauni Mountains.
It is the forest of the Dauni Mountains with the greatest presence of beech trees. Oaks of the downy and turkey oak type are also very common. You can also find the hornbeam, the mountain elm, the service tree, the local lime and two types of maple: mountain and country.
The undergrowth is made up of butcher's broom and holly, while at the herbaceous level it is possible to find the blooms of snowdrops, primrose, anemone and various species of forest orchids. In the peripheral areas of the wood there is a strong diffusion of dog rose.
The fauna of the forest is also very rich. Among the mammals we find the wolf, the wild cat, the badger and the dormouse. Among the amphibians, the Apennine toad at risk of extinction and the agile frog. Among the birds the great spotted woodpecker and the green woodpecker. Inside the wood it is possible to take advantage of picnic areas, paths of varying length and difficulty.
