The history of San Leone Vescovo ideally combines the center of the Royal Sites with that of Ascoli Satriano, on the basis of medieval manuscripts and traditions handed down orally.
In fact, San Leone Vescovo is considered the first Catholic pastor of the Diocese of Herdonea and Ascoli.
The Bishop of Ascoli Pirro Luigi Castellomata erected the altar in the Cathedral, the third in the left aisle, in honor of San Leone.
The Holy Patron of the city of Ordona is Saint Leo. Of Eastern origin, he lived and worked during the papacy of Pope Evaristus. He led the diocese from 105 to 174 AD. Bishop Pirro Luigi Castellomata of Ascoli erected an altar in honor of St. Leo in the Cathedral of Ascoli Satriano, the third on the left aisle. He is also the secondary patron saint of the city of Ascoli.
