The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother church of the municipality of Rocchetta Sant'Antonio, was built between 1754 and 1768.

The church is characterized by a mighty mass that dominates the historic center. Inside it there are numerous artistic works of undisputed value.

The Church stands at the foot of the Cittadella in an area of the country that has seen expansion and has ancient settlements dating back to the first millennium AD. It used to be the seat of the ancient Archpriesthood, which managed three parishes: Sant'Antonio Abate for Cittadella, San Giovanni Battista for Rione Pescara, and Sant'Angelo (known as Lampione). The construction was established in 1754 and inaugurated in 1768, with thirty priests enjoying canonical rights. The project was drafted by Engineer Giovanni Mancarelli from Barletta, followed by Silvestro Pollice and his son Sabato from Agnone. The building was constructed on top of a pre-existing church, probably contemporary with the existing bell tower, dating back to the period between 1558 and 1591. The original church had three aisles and was smaller than the current one, with a pronaos of six columns on the facade facing the main square, and a secondary entrance facing north, similar to the existing church.
