The Civic Museum of Troia was set up in 1971 in the ground floor and basement rooms of Palazzo D'Avalos, a sixteenth-century palace.
The museum was then inaugurated ten years later, in 1981, and is divided into five sectors. On the ground floor the finds from the contemporary era have been arranged, while in the basement those from the modern, medieval, Roman and pre-Roman times.
The museum, located on the ground floor and in the underground part of the building, offers exhibits on classical and medieval archaeology. Among the numerous pre-Roman artifacts, there are burial sets, bronze objects, ceramics, and male limestone heads dating back to the 8th-4th century BC. The Roman section features granite columns, Corinthian capitals, funerary inscriptions, and the pavement of the Via Traiana. The medieval section showcases Byzantine crosses, mosaics, and sarcophagi, including the sarcophagus of San Secondino, the bishop of Aeca. Modern works by local artists, such as noble family crests, the bust of Alfonso D'Aragona, plaster works by Nicola Fiore, and paintings by Vincenzo Curcetti complete the collection.
