The Mother Church of Santa Croce is located in the heart of the historic center of Celenza Valfortore, in Piazza Umberto I, on the ruins of the ancient church of Santa Croce or S.Giovanni in Piazza.
The construction of the mother church of Celenza Valfortore began in 1569, thanks to Baron Carlo Gambacorta di Giampaolo, feudal lord of the land of Celenza.
The Mother Church of Santa Croce was inaugurated in 1573 and, among the works of art preserved in it, you can admire some paintings such as the Assumption of B. Brunetti of 1656 and San Giorgio by Siciliani, and wooden sculptures such as the San Giuseppe with the Child by G. Colombo of 1702 and the San Giovanni Battista and the Immaculate Conception of the Neapolitan School. Of particular value are also the balustrade and the baptismal font in local bronze stone from the 16th century.
