A Foggia arriva “Storia di un Riscatto”

On Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 9:00 PM, the Laltrocinema Cicolella will host a special screening of “Storia di un Riscatto”, the latest work by director Stefano Odoardi. The initiative, promoted by the Collettivo Mediante of Foggia, follows a vision of cinema that does not merely narrate, but seeks to question the audience, restoring complexity and depth to real-life events.

A film based on a true story

Storia di un Riscatto, distributed by Superotto Film Production and released in Italian cinemas on October 15, 2025, is inspired by the kidnapping of Giuseppe Vinci, one of the most dramatic cases linked to the wave of kidnappings in Sardinia during the 1990s.The film – with a runtime of 120 minutes – retraces the 310 days of captivity of the young entrepreneur, held in inhumane conditions inside a wooden structure, while also portraying the ordeal faced by his family, forced to confront difficult decisions and the ambiguity of institutions.A case that marked a turning point: the Vinci kidnapping was among the first to spark strong public opposition to the so-called “Anonima Sequestri,” also thanks to the public mobilization led by Giuseppe’s wife.

A dual narrative layer

One of the most powerful elements of the film is the presence of Giuseppe Vinci himself, who plays his present-day self and, symbolically, also his father in the past. A narrative choice that transforms the story into a journey of memory and personal liberation.The film also stands out for its “anthropological” approach, as defined by the director, resulting from a careful reconstruction developed in collaboration with the real protagonists of the story. The aim is clear: to restore dignity to the story and emphasize the universal value of freedom.

The director meets the audience

Making the event even more meaningful will be the presence of Stefano Odoardi, who will engage in a discussion with the audience after the screening.A director, screenwriter, and visual artist, Odoardi lives and works between Italy and the Netherlands. His international background and experience across cinema and visual arts have led him to develop a distinctive style, combining aesthetic research with narrative commitment. His connection with Foggia is well established: in 2019, he shot the film La Nuit in the city.

A project beyond cinema

Alongside the film’s distribution, an educational project is currently active in Sardinia, promoted by the Teatro di Sardegna. Through screenings and meetings with Giuseppe Vinci, the project addresses key themes such as freedom, collective responsibility, and the fight against silence and complicity.An initiative that demonstrates how cinema can become a tool for civic education and active participation.

A film already recognized nationally

Storia di un Riscatto is currently nominated for the David di Donatello and the Globo d’Oro, confirming the critical attention received by a work that courageously explores a complex chapter of Italian history.
