Foggia Launches the Eighth Edition of 'Local History Conversations'

Foggia is set to kick off the eighth edition of 'Local History Conversations,' a series of meetings organized by the Special Funds section of the ‘la Magna Capitana’ Library. This initiative aims to explore themes, figures, and historical events related to the region through eight scheduled appointments from October to May.

The first meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 29, at 5:30 PM in the Conference Room of the Natural History Museum. Titled 'Tusiani and Foggia,' the session will be led by Nazario Martino. This year marks the centenary of the birth of Joseph Tusiani, and the event pays tribute to the writer, poet, and translator from San Marco in Lamis, who passed away in 2020. Tusiani, known for his works in Italian, dialect, Latin, English, and Spanish, spent much of his life in New York, where he became an important promoter of Italian culture. Professor Martino will focus on the connection between Tusiani and Foggia, a city that holds a significant place in his novel 'Quando la Daunia bruciava,' particularly regarding the tragic events of the summer of 1943.

The program for 'Local History Conversations' is diverse and rich in content. Among the topics to be discussed, on November 28, Enzo Ficarelli will speak about 'Piazza Cavour: The Most Beautiful Postcard of Foggia,' followed on December 12 by Luigi Iacominio, who will delve into 'Overlord 80: The Role of Capitanata in the Normandy Campaign.' In the new year, Pina Cutolo will explore the 'Historical-Archaeological Site of Herdonia' on January 21, while on February 20, Massimo Mastroiorio will discuss the 'State Archive of Foggia and Sources for Local History.' On March 27, Carmine De Leo will present 'Parks and Gardens in Ancient Foggia,' and on April 3, Tommaso Palermo will focus on 'A Sculpture by Tino di Camaino in Foggia.' Finally, on May 8, Maurizio De Tullio will conclude the series with 'Foggiani! Discovering Great Foggian Figures Who Are Unknown or Forgotten.'

All meetings will take place at 5:30 PM in the Conference Room of the Natural History Museum, characterized by a friendly atmosphere and strong exchanges of ideas and opinions, open to contributions from the public. This is an unmissable opportunity for enthusiasts of local history and culture.
