Inizia l'ottava edizione di 'Dialoghi sulla storia del territorio'
Informations
The eighth edition of the 'Conversations on Local History' is set to begin, a series of meetings promoted by the Special Funds section of the 'la Magna Capitana' Library in Foggia, dedicated to exploring themes, figures, and historical events of the area. As always, eight history enthusiasts will take turns from October to May to share their research findings with the public. The atmosphere will be informal and educational, fostering a lively exchange of ideas and suggestions, while keeping the format open to all contributions.
The first meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 29 at 5:30 PM in the Conference Room of the Natural History Museum, titled 'Tusiani and Foggia', led by Nazario Martino. This year, in celebration of the centenary of Joseph Tusiani's birth, the event will pay tribute to this writer, poet, and translator from San Marco in Lamis, who passed away in New York in 2020. Author of numerous works in verse and prose, Tusiani found success primarily in New York, where he arrived in 1947 to teach at various universities. An tireless promoter of Italian culture, he was also a well-known translator of Italian poets.
Known as the poet of two worlds, Tusiani wrote in dialect, Italian, Latin, English, and Spanish, connecting his name to San Marco in Lamis and New York, while never forgetting his homeland. He dedicated many verses to the Capitanata, particularly to the Gargano, but his connection to Foggia is equally significant, as highlighted in his novel 'Quando la Daunia bruciava'. Professor Nazario Martino will explore this aspect during his presentation.
The program is rich and varied: on November 22, Enzo Ficarelli will discuss 'Piazza Cavour. The most beautiful postcard of Foggia', examining the buildings surrounding the historic fountain of Sele, exactly in the year of its centenary. Key figures such as engineer Camillo Rosalba and Honorable Renato Matteo Imbriani will also be discussed, along with the historic cast-iron public fountains.
On December 12, Luigi Iacominio will present 'Overlord 80. The role of Capitanata in the Normandy Campaign'. The new year will start on January 21 with Pina Cutolo's talk on 'The archaeological-historical site of Herdonia', followed by Massimo Mastroiorio on February 20, who will speak about the State Archive of Foggia. The meetings will continue with Carmine De Leo on March 27 discussing 'Parks and gardens in ancient Foggia', and Tommaso Palermo on April 3, who will focus on a sculpture by Tino di Camaino in Foggia. The series will conclude on May 8 with Maurizio De Tullio presenting 'Foggiani! Discovering great unknown or forgotten Foggian figures'.
