FOGGIA – An intense, visceral, and deeply human theatrical journey into the life of one of history’s most controversial women. On March 28 and 29, 2026, the stage of Teatro Umberto Giordano will host “Insight Lucrezia”, a performance that reimagines the myth of Lucrezia Borgia, stripping away stereotypes to reveal her emotional and political complexity.
The play opens with the evocative setting of the wedding celebration between Lucrezia Borgia and Alfonso I d'Este, but the festive atmosphere soon fractures, giving way to a more intimate and unsettling dimension. Here, Lucrezia confronts her role, the burden of expectations, and the ghosts of a life marked by political alliances, broken relationships, and imposed identities.
Music plays a central role in the performance, not merely as accompaniment but as a living presence that interacts with and sometimes disrupts the narrative, intensifying emotions and dramatic tension.
Lucrezia emerges not only as a victim, but also as a strategist—both pawn and player. “Insight Lucrezia” portrays her as a complex figure, caught between condemnation and self-determination, between imposed identity and the desire to redefine herself. Her inner monologue reveals memories, relationships—both forced and beloved—and the pain of children lost.
A powerful symbol within the play is the wedding dress: initially a sign of power and social role, it gradually becomes an unbearable weight, representing an identity shaped by others and difficult to shed.
A performance that invites the audience to look beyond historical judgment and reflect on how much of Lucrezia’s struggle—between image and truth—still resonates today.
