The village of Alberona, from the slopes of Monte Stilo, has always guaranteed the flow of water throughout the plain of the Tavoliere delle Puglie. This historic fountain is located at the entrance to the town coming from Lucera. Over the centuries it has been used by travelers to refresh their horses and to cool off after a long journey. Its peculiarity can already be found in the name; the fountain, in fact, is called "mute" due to the curious, and somewhat mysterious, absence of noise that characterizes the falling of its waters.
The mute fountain dates back to the nineteenth century and is certainly one of the oldest still present in the village in the province of Foggia. In the villages of the Dauni Mountains, the most beautiful experience you can have is to forget about technology, not look at the clock and get lost in the thousand alleys that branch off into the historic centers.
