Miles Gloriosus at Teatro Curci

At Teatro Curci in Barletta comes Miles Gloriosus, the famous comedy by Titus Maccius Plautus, staged by Compagnia del Sole with Ettore Bassi and Flavio Albanese. It is a bright, contemporary production that, with lightness and intelligence, turns theatrical trickery into a reflection on flattery, abuse of power, and justice.

Set in an Ephesian world imagined with the pace and vitality of a spaghetti western, the play brings to life the tragicomic story of a vain and gullible soldier who believes himself to be the object of universal admiration, while in reality he is caught in a sophisticated web of deception.

Around him moves a gallery of characters who pretend friendship, love, and loyalty in order to gain personal advantage, in a plot that turns the street into a stage and theatre itself into an end, no longer just a means.

Direction, translation, and dramaturgy are by Marinella Anaclerio, who builds a fast-paced production with strong choral energy, supported by a large and well-balanced cast: alongside Ettore Bassi and Flavio Albanese are Stella Addario, Alessia Racci Chini, Patrizia Labianca, Loris Leoci, Tony Marzolla, Luigi Moretti, and Dino Parrotta. Set design by Pino Pipoli, costumes by Stefania Cempini, lighting design by Mauro Marasà, assistant director Antonella Ruggiero, and technical direction by Ettore Bianco complete a staging that focuses on comic precision and the power of character portrayal.
