Founded in 1990 as the “Città di Barletta” Music Competition, it became European in 1996. Following the untimely passing of the young pianist Mauro Paolo Monopoli at just 21 years old, the International Piano Competition dedicated to him was established in 1997, quickly gaining international prestige.
The 2026 edition (May 5–10) will feature around 300 participants from 30 countries, €30,000 in prizes, several Prize Concerts, and a spectacular Final performance of three great Piano Concertos with Orchestra.
The finalists will perform with the Orchestra Sinfonica Suoni del Sud, conducted by Maestro Benedetto Montebello.
Since 2025, the Competition has been part of the prestigious WFIMC – World Federation of International Music Competitions in Geneva, the only piano competition in Southern Italy to receive this distinction.
