Monocromi: Solo Exhibition of Master Alfonso Fratteggiani
Informations
Solo Exhibition of Master Alfonso Fratteggiani Bianchi Opens at Foggia’s Contemporary Art Gallery
On November 9, the Contemporary Art Gallery on Viale Michelangelo in Foggia unveiled a solo exhibition dedicated to the renowned Italian artist Alfonso Fratteggiani Bianchi, a distinguished figure in the international contemporary art scene known for his monochromatic paintings. Curated by gallery owner Giuseppe Benvenuto, the exhibition will be open to the public until January 4, 2025.
Fratteggiani Bianchi, born in Pieve Caina (Perugia) in 1952, is celebrated for his unique use of pure pigment applied directly onto pietra serena, a porous stone that allows him to work without any binding agents. Growing up between Rome and Florence, he later moved to Cologne, Germany, where his musical studies deeply influenced his visual arts practice.
Following various experiments, he found his preferred medium in grey sandstone, a material often used in Umbrian and Tuscan architecture and sculpture. Its porosity enhances the quality of color and enables him to explore the full potential of each pigment. His work is characterized by an ongoing quest for chromatic depth and the material essence of color, which he describes as “highly sensitive to environmental changes and manipulation.” The exhibition presents around fifteen monochromatic works, including diptychs and triptychs, offering viewers an experience of the rich emotional atmosphere his art evokes.
Fratteggiani Bianchi’s works are part of significant public and private collections, such as the Panza di Biumo Collection in Varese and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, USA. As noted by Giuseppe Panza di Biumo, “Sensitive individuals are struck by the power of Fratteggiani Bianchi’s works.”
