Bue Marino Cave
Informations
The Bue Marino cave, located near the Tremiti Islands, is one of the places where the sought-after monk seal lived, now almost extinct.
The Bue Marino cave is an obligatory stop on the San Domino Island tour. It is a natural rock cavity about 70 meters long and up to 14 meters high. Inside there is a small sandy beach and the gaze is captivated by the intense blue of the waters and the inner walls of the cave. In fact, thanks to the shallow waters and the play of light created by the sun, the whole cave takes on an incredible shade of bright blue.
The Peregrine Falcon nests on Ripa dei Falconi, the outer rock ridge, while the caves are the natural habitat of the Diomedee, the sea birds typical of the Tremiti, with a song very similar to the cry of a newborn. It is said that these birds are Diomedes' companions, transformed by Venus to watch over their hero who rests here.
