Each cave is designated by a characteristic name and with it a story told by the guides themselves during the excursions. The Grotta dei Contrabbandieri (Vieste) takes its name from the episode reported by the fishermen; in fact, at nightfall some smugglers, pursued by the Guardia di Finanza, had taken refuge inside the cave.
The presence of the two outlets was unknown to the financiers, who waited for the dawn to conclude their operation with great surprise, they no longer found the two illegal immigrants, who fled through the other exit during the night, favored by the darkness.
