The Mercadante Theatre of Cerignola is an important cultural venue located in the city of Cerignola, in the Puglia region of Italy. This theater is named after Saverio Mercadante, a famous 19th-century Italian composer who played a significant role in the history of opera music.
The Mercadante Theatre is known for being a vital center for arts and culture in the region, offering a wide range of performances that include theatrical plays, concerts, ballets, and other cultural events. Besides its function as a performance space, the theater plays an important role in promoting the arts and in the cultural education of the local community, often hosting workshops, conferences, and educational meetings.
Constructed based on the design by the architect Leopoldo Vaccaro, it was inaugurated in 1868. In its current configuration, it has two tiers of boxes, which replaced the original three tiers following two renovations of the building.
