Troia Co-Cathedral
Informations
A combination of Romanesque and Byzantine styles, the Cathedral of Troia, known as the Co-Cathedral of the Beata Vergine Maria Assunta in Cielo, represents the fulcrum of the Lucera-Troia diocese. The rose window is especially representative, consisting of eleven small columns resting on a carved stone drum, creating an ornament depicting a snake biting its own tail, thus giving the illusion of eternity.
Further symbolisms are represented by the planimetric plan, indicating the human body, and the asymmetrical apse, which recalls the inclined head of the crucified Christ.
Finally, among the peculiar characteristics of the cathedral of Troia there is the use of bronze for the construction of the doors, present only in a few ancient Italian churches.
