Arch of the Imperial Palace of Frederick II
Informations
The archivolt was originally supposed to be part of the access portal to the Imperial Palace built by Frederick II in the city that was the main imperial residence, although it was never the capital of the kingdom.
The arch of the imperial palace of Frederick II is decorated with acanthus leaves carved in a white limestone and with capitals skilfully worked in the shape of eagles, the imperial symbol. The inscription placed inside the light of the arch clearly explains the intent of the Puer Apuliae: Foggia was urbs regalis and with the construction it also became sedes imperialis.
